Brian – Lead singer, manager and emcee
Brian Lester loves baseball and old movies. He’s watched the Cardinals play in three stadiums now, and he’s watched White Christmas more times than he cares to admit. But the only thing Brian’s ever wanted to do is to sing. And he’s gotten to do that all his life.

Brian’s career started at the age of 3, and by 4 he was singing on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour in New York. It’s still one of his favorite memories. Brian also fondly remembers playing “gospel family” with his sister, Ginger, and pretending to travel by bus with some of the greats.

The Lesters’ own bus became a reality in 1959, when Brian’s grandfather, the late Harvey, was in the hospital with a back injury. “Pop” Lester had been against buying a bus for the family, but, when he was in the hospital they took matters into their own hands. As Brian’s father (Herschel) drove the first “Lesterbus” into the hospital parking lot, a nurse wheeled “Pop” to the window to have a look!

Brian learned much from his grandparents and his parents and deeply respects the ministry they started. He is honored to continue that tradition with his wife, Sandra, and son, Jonathan.

Ginger – Alto
Ginger’s profession and hobby are one and the same: family. She’s been married to Dan for 26 years, and has delighted in watching her children and grandchildren grow up as they’ve toured the country.

Ginger’s earliest memories are of singing with the family. She first recorded at age two on the album “Standing by the River”. At age 10, she sang at a Cardinals game in the old Busch Stadium. Sometimes, she recalls, the energy at concerts was almost too great to contain.

Ginger has an enduring respect for many gospel and popular musicians, who continue to inspire her arrangements. She listens to the music of James Taylor, Manhattan Transfer and The Imperials on long treks across the country. But the really big names on her list of favorites are Dan, Jenny, Evan, Emma and Ava – her family!

Jenny - Soprano
Jenny has been influenced by many musicians, but her greatest influence has always been her mother, Ginger. Now Jenny, along with her husband, Seth, is inspiring the next generation of family musicians in daughters, Emma and Ava.

Like all of The Lesters, Jenny has performed her whole life. She first recorded when she was 17 months old, and she sang on stage at age two. But Jenny’s most memorable moment occurred at a concert in Illinois when she was sixteen. “The microphone was stuck in its stand,” she recalls, “and when I tried to get it out, it hit me in the nose!” Jenny finished the concert with a bloody nose. But, like the rest of the group, she was, “gonna keep on singing!”

Jenny has lots of hobbies, including spectator sports (especially college basketball and football) and shopping. An avid theater buff, she enjoys occasional visits to New York. She writes poetry in her spare time.

Jonathan – Baritone
Jonathan grew up with music and travel and…well…Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His favorite color is still purple, in honor of his favorite childhood “turtle,” Donatello. Jonathan’s real-life hero is his great grandfather, Harvey, who started The Lesters’ music ministry and died a few years before Jonathan was born. “He’s the person I would most like to meet,” says Jonathan. “He was a cool guy.”

Jonathan himself is a cool guy, studying Business Administration at Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis. In his spare time, he enjoys cosmic bowling and playing x-box. On bus rides, he likes to sleep.

Growing up in a gospel music family, Jonathan has had his share of mountaintop experiences. One of these was particularly memorable. On a trip to Bryson City, N.C. when he was three years old, Jonathan got left at the top of “Inspiration Mountain” by mistake. He thanks his family for coming back to get him.
